Paleo might appeal to you. To live a healthier and happier life, here are some things you shouldn't eat. Common additives include aspartame, calcium sorbate, monosodium glutamate (MSG), nitrates, potassium bromate, saccharin, artificial sweeteners, and GMOs.

Processed foods

The majority of processed foods can't be found in the natural world. These foods are made in laboratories and often contain artificial preservatives and ingredients. They also lack essential nutrients, fiber and protein. A paleo diet means that you will avoid processed food. So what foods should you be avoiding? You can read on to learn more about some foods you should not eat when following a paleo lifestyle.

Refined sugars

Refined sugars can't be consumed on a Paleo diet, and that means avoiding processed, refined, and table-top sugars. These products are loaded with additives and are not healthy for your body. Refined sugars are safe to consume in moderation. Ezekiel bread, which consists of grains, legumes and milk, is another option.

Phytic acid is found in grains

cooking tips best

Phytic acid is a compound found in grains and other plants that interferes with our bodies' ability to absorb minerals. It can be especially harmful in countries with low iron and vitamin A levels. Paleo isn't completely against phytic Acid. There are several ways to reduce its effects. It is possible to reduce the impact by sowing grains before cooking and by cooking legumes for a longer time. It is difficult to say whether there is a right or wrong answer.

Vegetable oils

Vegetable oils are a popular addition to modern cooking. But are they healthy for you? They are high in omega-3 and polyunsaturated oils, which is not good for the Paleo diet. Even if vegetable oils are well-sourced, organic and cold-pressed, they still contain unhealthy, polyunsaturated oil that is not good for your health. These oils can be substituted without compromising the quality of your food.

Fruits

Apples are a staple food on the paleo diet. Apples are high in calories but very nutritious. A medium-sized apple contains approximately 10 grams sugar and more that 2 grams fiber. Compared to apples, bananas and melons are also not considered true paleo foods. These fruits can be added to your diet if your goal is to eat healthy.

Organic fruits

If you are on a Paleo diet, you should buy only organic, non-GMO fruits and vegetables. Organic produce will contain less pesticides, trace chemicals, and be more nutritious. You can also opt for items with low pesticide residue such as the Clean 15 list from Environmental Working Group. The Environmental Working Group publishes each year lists of the cleanest and dirtiest foods.
